Natural ways to relief

I believe I’ve had Long Covid since March 2020. Since then I’ve tried many things to cure it. Here I share 15 natural remedies for Long Covid that have provided relief from the symptoms I’m experiencing. Although some of my symptoms have lessened or disappeared completely I still have persistent ailments that are bothersome and impact my life. You may want to read what I’ve previously written about my Long Covid symptoms and some of the remedies I tried.

15 things I’ve tried that Long Covid relief

Some of my symptoms have disappeared naturally with time. My taste and smell has returned to normal now, which took 1.5 yrs. My breathing is much better, possibly with the help of walking and meditation. My headaches have returned to normal. Below I’ve listed my remaining symptoms plus 15 Natural Remedies for Long Covid that I have found helpful for my symptoms. They may help you even if you only experience 1 or 2 of these symptoms.

For Sinus pain & post nasal drip

1. Eucalyptus inhalations – Since having Covid I have had chronic sinusitis. I’ve found doing a eucalyptus inhalation for sinus pain in the morning really helps. The steam and eucalyptus vapours help to clear the sinus passages and ease breathing.

2. Nasal lavage – I have found some relief from daily nasal lavage with saline solution. The saline and hyaluronic acid mix helps to keep the nasal passages clean.

For Swollen & painful neck glands

3. CBD oil – One of the most annoying symptoms of Long Covid is painful swollen neck glands. I have found this topical cbd oil helps to relieve painful neck glands. I do also take paracetamol.

4. Lymphatic drainage – Having watched this video I perform lymphatic drainage on my neck whilst showering in the morning. It’s advisable to drink lots of water following lymphatic drainage.

For Sore throat & hoarse voice

5. Echinacea & sage throat spray – after a course of herbal treatment with Hannah Charman I have stuck with this soothing spray of echinacea and sage for sore throat and hoarse voice.

For Chronic Fatigue

6. Rest – The most debilitating symptom of long covid is chronic fatigue. I am still learning how much exercise is too much. If I overdo it I’m plagued with post exertion fatigue. This can last for a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Rest is the only answer when I feel like this.

7. A better sleep routine – find a good sleep routine that works for you and stick to it. Sleep is so important in the recovery of this post viral illness.

8. Manage workload – I have had to come to terms with my new energy levels and have changed my workload accordingly. Luckily I’m self employed so can do that easily but I realise for others this may be more difficult. Planning more breaks than normal is key and listening to your body.

For General symptoms

9. Cold water therapy – Cold water is amazing and I love my cold showers now! Without going to the extremes of Wim Hoff’s ice baths I’ve found cold water to be one of the best things for Long Covid relief. Watch this video to get started.

  • Please ask your doctor if it’s ok for you to take cold showers before you start.

For Stress & Uncertainty

10. Meditation – Being unwell for such a long time has its mental effects. I’ve found meditation and breathing to be very beneficial for my lungs as well as my mental health. I have tried various lengths of time for meditations but found 15 minutes to be effective and fits into my daily routine.

11. Talking therapy – The uncertainty of when I will be well again is worrying and I have found talking things through with a therapist helps me a lot.

12. Gratitude diary – Mindfulness is a great practice for everyone but especially for Long Covid relief. I write 3 things I’m grateful for plus one thing I accomplished each day. Like a drip effect, the small benefits of writing daily in a gratitude diary increases to a much bigger and better life outlook. It certainly helps put everything in perspective.

For General wellness

13. Pilates – From my experience of Long Covid you really don’t want to over do it! I’ve experienced massive setbacks in my health from overdoing it. I enjoy Pilates with Kate so much. Pilates is a slow but powerful exercise that helps build your core strength. Because it is low impact it is one of the only exercises I can do with my long covid.

14. Mediterranean diet for inflammation – Some theories say Long Covid comes about from inflammation in the body. As well as being delicious a mediterranean diet is good to reduce inflammation in the body. I certainly love cooking and eating delicious food so I highly recommend a mediterranean diet for your health as well as for Long Covid relief. There are many recipe books available online.

15. Supplements – I’ve found some benefit from taking the following supplements daily. High dose vitamin C and D. Mitochondrial resuscitate tablets really help my energy levels, it’s expensive but worth it I think.

10 Simple things to combat Blue Monday

10 Simple things to combat Blue Monday

OK, I admit it, I’ve been getting really down about my health. It’s coming up to 2 year anniversary having Long Covid and the last 2 weeks have been particularly bad. It wasn’t till I woke up this morning that I realised it was Blue Monday but I was in the perfect mood for it.

I wrote about walking for health and wellbeing recently but today I wanted to share with you the 10 things I did today to combat Blue Monday.

The 10 things I did today to lift my mood

  1. Cold shower
  2. Cleanse and moisturise
  3. Take a stroll
  4. Make vitamin D
  5. Reach out to a friend
  6. Aromatherapy
  7. A little treat
  8. Invest in a SAD daylight lamp
  9. Download a affirmations app
  10. Listen to some music

Cold Shower

This isn’t as horrid as it sounds. I started cold water therapy last summer to help with Long Covid symptoms. As winter came I stopped taking cold showers but this week I’ve started up again, here’s how: After you’ve finished your normal hot shower simply turn off the hot and turn up the cold to full. With only cold water running from the shower let the water run down your back for 30 seconds. Breath slow and deep to prevent hyperventilation. The following day stay for 40 seconds, each day increasing your time by 10 seconds until you reach 3 minutes. The cold water helps with low mood, inflammation as well as having many other benefits.

Cleanse and moisturise

What I mean by this is that I took a few minutes longer than normal to get ready in the morning. Taking more time to get ready and applying lotions and potions to your body makes you feel better. You could even apply your favourite fragrance, even if you’re not seeing anyone.

Take a stroll

With my health being so rubbish last week I’ve not been able to get out on a proper walk but  today I took a very slow ambling walk into my local village. It’s about a 5 minute walk but I wasn’t in a hurry so I took my time, looking at everything on the way.

Make D while the sun shines

While in the village, I bought a few supplies.  In one of the shops I overheard the shopkeeper say “make D while the sun shines” and I thought that’s exactly what I need. So on the way home I sat on a wall with the sun on my face, closed my eyes and soaked it all up, creating vitamin D that I’ve probably been lacking the last 7 days. When I got home I found another patch of sun on my balcony. I sat for 15 minutes and felt the warmth on my face.

Reach out to a friend

Because I’d been stuck in a rut with my health, when my neighbour messaged me I kindly took up her offer to have a cuppa and a catch up. It was so lovely to have a chat and find out about her graduation. She also gave me a lovely little miss sunshine card which is just brilliant. It really did me the power of good and I’m very grateful.

Aromatherapy

When I eventually settled down to do some work today I light my oil burner and put a blend of sweet orange and geranium oils in it. As well as smelling gorgeous the orange oil is uplifting and can help with anxiety and depression.

A Little Treat

I know it’s not always favourable to treat yourself to food but I find cooking relaxing so I bought some nice ingredients to make a delicious dinner tonight.

Invest in a SAD daylight lamp

I’ve heard good things about daylight lamps for Seasonal Affective Disorder so I ordered mine last night. I will report back on how it works.

Download a affirmations app

I spend a lot of time on my own, mostly that’s fine, but sometimes the conversations I have with myself can become negative without me even consciously realising it. Yesterday I downloaded a unique daily affirmations app on my phone. Each day it gives you a positive affirmation, you can get alerts through the day to remind you to read it. You can record yourself saying the affirmation and you can even get Siri to read it out to you. A bit of positive brain retraining can’t do any harm.

Listen to some music

I’m just off to cook my evening meal and I will be putting on my favourite uplifting tunes to help me along. Often I get so distracted by my brain that I forget to put on some music to sing or sway along to. Music is a very powerful mood changer.

How did you combat Blue Monday?

I hope these 10 simple things to combat Blue Monday are useful to you for today and beyond. Please let me know if you try any of them and how they work out for you. Have you got any good tips to turn your mood around during these winter months? Please write them in the comments below.

The Most Worrying Time…

The Most Worrying Time…

The last 2 and a half weeks have been the most worrying time. My darling mum was admitted to hospital after exhibiting some alarming symptoms. I rushed to their home to look after my dear dad who has been ill with dementia for a couple of years now.

With life turned up side down my work virtually ground to a halt. I’m grateful that I don’t have any other dependants so was able to be there for my parents at short notice. I apologise to anyone who tried to order any jewellery from my online shops recently. I had to close my shops whilst I didn’t know what was happening with my parents.

I’m pleased to report that my mum is now home, although on a tonne of medication and with more hospital tests in the pipeline. I’m hoping to be able to put aside a few days a week to make jewellery again.

My shop is now officially open again. Please note that jewellery orders will take a week to complete so allow extra time when you order.

hey little fighter, soon things will be brighter

I’ve been taking strength from the wonderful Karen Salmonsohn during this tough time (www.notsalmon.com)

Thanks for your patience and sorry for any inconvenience whilst my shop was closed.
